General duties:
Analyze, enhance, and test software under the guidance of senior members with direction from a software engineer

Technologies: PHP, Perl, PostgreSQL, MySQL, Apache, Linux, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, Bazaar
Salary:10,000-45,000 PHP/month (after training, depending on experience)

We are seeking intelligent, responsible, and highly independent programmers. Applicants should be fast learners and capable of handling complex tasks independently. Our business provides offshore software development services to US-based businesses. As such, we use a wide variety of technologies, and candidates will be expected to learn them quickly and thoroughly as needed. Strong English is an absolute requirement.

Programmers will be expected to analyze, enhance, and test software according to detailed specifications under the immediate supervision of senior members. Our development process is carefully designed to ensure the highest possible quality in terms of code and functionality. We believe in "context, not control" and do not micromanage employees. A good employee is one that requires little supervision and is able to produce quality work.

Candidates will receive paid training for approximately 4-5 months, based on experience. During this time, they will be responsible for teaching themselves numerous technologies and doing hands-on projects under our guidance. The ability to handle complex tasks independently will be critically evaluated. At the end of the training period, we will make a final decision regarding long-term employment. Candidates with little experience will find this position to be a major opportunity for growth and learning.

RESPONSIBILITIES

• Design and development of a new web applications under direction from senior members
• Use object-oriented and test-driven development techniques
• Develop and maintain unit and functional tests to ensure a working application. Tests will monitor application performance as well
• Optimize software performance
• Perform some database and system administration tasks
• Learn new technology quickly
• Participate in regular code reviews
• Use advanced debugging techniques - loggers, debuggers, tracers, profilers
• Providing documentation for everything
• Manage source code using Subversion, bazaar, or other version control system

REQUIREMENTS

• Must have experience with a version control system such as CVS, Subversion, Git, Mercurial, or Bazaar
• Knowledge of 1 or more modern programming languages: Java, PHP, Perl, Python, Ruby
• Web development knowledge: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, browser compatibility
• Database and SQL knowledge: PostgreSQL and MySQL. Experience with indexes, views, constraints, and triggers is a plus.
• Knowledge of open source software
• Good problem solving and debugging skills
• Strong knowledge of data structures and algorithms
• Object-oriented programming familiarity
• Strong spoken and written English
• Sense of humor
